Sakura Market Bag

Go Green with this super cute bag, with a decorative mandala on the bottom. The pattern is using 100% cotton yarn, which makes it more durable and you can wash it again and again if it gets dirty.

I love reusable bags, I usually take some anywhere when I’m out in town for shopping! That’s why I created this beautiful market bag.

I used my Sakura Face Scrubbies pattern and extended it to create this beautifully textured bottom part which gives some extra touch to the final product!

I used Paintbox Yarns Cotton DK in lime green colourway. You can get the yarn HERE. It is a very vibrant colour and brightens up a gloomy day. 🙂

It is an easy pattern but a bit more advanced because of some special stitches used. Written in US terms only.

I hope you’ll enjoy this pattern as much as I did when creating it!

If you have any questions feel free to contact me.

UPDATE: If you are more visual, my friend, Karen, made a video tutorial to help you all! You can find all of the videos HERE.

  1. i LOVE your market bag design! Do you have a video teaching the steps? I attempted the first few rows but it is flat not textured like yours. Thanks for your help!

    1. Hello, sorry for the late reply.
If you give me your email address, I can send you some step by step photos of the first few rounds. It is not as complicated as it looks. 😊

  2. Love your stuff. New to crochet pattern reading. if you could, please help: round 4 the directions say 7 DCin next FPDC. Does that mean one double crochet in each of the next 7FPDC‘s or seven double crochets in the one next FPDC,? I’m still trying to learn to read thank you so much I look forward to finishing this and your other patterns

  3. Enhotabuena es preciosa! Me encantaría hacerla, pero no entiendo la parte de la base. Tendrías el gráfico? Gracias de antemano

  4. I made this with a finer yarn and 2.25 hook. It’s too small for a shopping bag, but still super cute. Thanks for a cute, well written and fun pattern!

    1. I am so happy to hear that you liked the pattern. 💕 I made it with aran yarn and it’s quiet big. The dk is a perfect size for me. 😊

  5. I made one of these bags. To make it longer I added 6 more rows on Round 15.
    Love the design!

  6. Love your cute market bag but do you have it written anywhere with just the pattern? for pattern readers who don’t want 13 pages? Please?

  7. Thank you so much for for this video! It was very well explained and demonstrated and I love my market bag! About to start a second one now for my daughter! Great job!

    1. I am so happy to hear that! My friend in Australia, Karen made the video so I give her all the credit. You can help her by subscribing to her channel, she has a lot of useful videos there and featuring my other designs. 😉

  8. hi there! love the design of this bag. im currently making it now. i had a light weight yarn, so im crochet this pattern with 2 yarns together with the 4.00mm hook. during the beginning it was ok, had some slight curling. but now im on row 15 and theres abit more curling happening. is that normal? and will its sort itself out when the bad is in used and is stretched a little?

    1. Hi Nina,
What type of yarn are you using? If you use lightweight yarn with 2 strands, I think a 4mm hook is a bit small and that’s causing the problem. Carry on, and if it gets worse, try to rip it out and try with a bigger hook.
      I hope this helps. 🙂

  9. Love this pattern! how do i keep the flower at the bottom and make the petals for the whole bag so its not so holy lol is there a pattern? can u make one?

  10. Hello! I have fallen in love with your pattern and wold like to know if that would be ok to sell the finished items? My sister is opening a small indie shop and has asked me to make some items for her. So I thought I wold ask for your permission since I can not see indication either way on your pattern. If not it is perfectly ok and I will continue to make your patterns as gifts as they are beautiful!

    1. You can sell the finished items, I have no problems with that at all. Just please credit me as the designer of the pattern if you can.
      Happy crocheting!

  11. Thank you for the free online pattern. I like to print off patterns as well as your wonderful videos. The English version isn’t the same as the other ones. Is there any chance that you can post a complete written English version?

    1. Thank you for your feedback!
I don’t know what do you mean by the English version is not the same as the others. You can download the English version from Lovecrafts or crazypatterns.
Also, I will add the English version to Ravelry soon.
      Happy crocheting!

  12. Hello! I have made this bag several times and love it! Easy to make and so cute and functional! I gave one to my mom who showed it to my young nieces. They loved it and want me to make them each one. Unfortunately, the one from the pattern would be too big for them. Is there an easy way to scale down the size? Thank you!

  13. Wow! This is beautiful. I made 3 in 3 different colors, and all my friends want one or two, as they can’t decide which color to pick. 🙂 So much fun to make. Thank you for your free pattern.

  14. Hello, thank you very much for this free pattern, i make it for my frend who is getting married in june.

  15. I made this, 1st attempt was not fun, chose the wrong type of yarn, too slippery.

Made #2 with recommended yarn, no deviation what so ever, it came out PERFECT!!! 😊
