Hello and welcome to the Anna’s Tales Crochet Along!
If you are following me on my other social media platforms, you may know that I will run a CAL soon.
I am over the moon by all of your lovely responses and the interest you’ve shown. Also, I feel so excited and nervous about it. With all the things happened in 2020, I wanted to end this year with something nice to remember.
In this post, I try to collect all the information you need before the start:
- Story behind the name
- CAL start date
- Parts
- Materials needed
- Difficulty
- Size
- Gauge
- Helpful tips
- Facebook Group
- PDF file
The story behind the name:
My daughter’s middle name is Anna and she always sits next to me watching cartoons and checking my work while I’m crocheting. That’s why I decided to name the pattern after her, because all of my ideas for the design came from the love I feel for her, she inspires me all the time.
CAL start date:
The CAL starts on 27/12/2020. It’s right after Christmas when you don’t have much to do and hopefully you have some more time to sit and crochet. 😊
Parts:
- Week 1: 27 December 2020, Part 1: Round 1-21
- Week 2: 3 January 2021, Part 2: Round 22-32
- Week 3: 10 January 2021, Part 3: Round 33-48
- Week 4: 17 January 2021, Part 4: Round 49-57
Materials needed:
- 3.5 mm (E) size hook (Get great hooks HERE)
- NOTE: If you crochet loosely I advise you to use a 3 mm (5/0) size hook
- 1 Scheepjes Whirl and a matching whirlette or approximately 1640 yards/1500 meters of fingering weight yarn
- Yarn needle for weaving in ends
- Scissors
- Stitch markers (optional)
- NOTE: Blocking is essential to enhance the textured patternwork of your blanket
Note 1: If you crochet loosely, you might need to get another Whirlette or instead of using 2 Whirlettes, you can use 2 Whirls
Note 2: Blocking is essential to enhance the textured, lacy patternwork of your blanket
Difficulty:
Intermediate. Although, this is an intermediate/advanced pattern, advanced beginners can join in too as the pattern will have CLEAR and EASY TO UNDERSTAND instructions with some photo help.
Size:
The finished size is 87.5cm x 87.5 cm / 34.5″ x 34.5″ AFTER BLOCKING.
However, if you use different yarn weight (dk or aran), the finished size will be bigger.
Gauge:
5 half double crochet stitches and 3 rows = 1″ / 2.5cm
The finished size will also differ if you have a loose or tight tension.
Helpful tips:
Don’t get stressed about the time frame. It’s all about the joy of crocheting, so if it takes more time to complete each part it’s still okay! This is not a race. It’s a journey, our journey together to create something unique and beautiful with or creativity. 😊 💕
You can get the materials to be prepared for the start now or you can ask for the yarn as a Christmas present (What a great excuse to get more yarn, right?)
This will be a written pattern only with no charts. However, it will have some helpful photos for the tricky rounds.
Facebook group:
Before the start date, feel free to join my Facebook group where you can get some extra support from me and some other wonderful members of the team. You can join HERE.
PDF file:
The pattern will be also available in PDF format in my Ravelry store for a small fee. I will upload the parts on the release dates (shown above) and once all parts released, I’m going to merge the parts in one file and upload that too.
Thank you so much for your time to read through this information! I can’t wait to start and see all your beautiful creations!

PART 1.

How exciting! I’ve got some lovely yarn that would make this into a beautiful blanket for my youngest to snuggle up on the couch with. Looking forward to finishing all my Christmas gift making and being able to make this!
That’s great, I am so happy to hear that you join us! I am excited to see all of your different makes! 😊
I have some twirls for this although I love the melting macaroon
Twirls are great but as they are not twisted you will have to be careful with the puff stitches. 😊
Good to know!!
Good to know!!
I can barely wait till 27th. So keen.i have some Katia..SpringvRainbow i have been waiting to use.
That’s great! 😍 I am excited for the CAL too! 💗
Can you please share the color you used? I really love it! Also, will the directions be in UK terms or US? Thanks so much! I look forward to doing this project!
I used Scheepjes Whirl in Melting Macaron and a Bubble Whirlette. I always use US terminology. 😊 Can’t wait to share it with you all!
I love the lacy look of this blanket! But because it’s so lacy and the size, is it suitable for a newborn? I worry about tiny fingers getting stuck and the baby outgrowing the blanket very fast. This is my first crocheted blanket for a baby so I don’t know these things. I’m going you can help!
I crocheted blankets for my own babies, even lacy ones. I never had any problems with fingers get stuck or anything like that. I always covered them with the blanket or wrapped them up and made sure the won’t get stuck.
Just ordered two Scheepjes Whirl in Melting Macaron~so excited to start this. Many years of crochet, then moved on to knitting and am now ready to crochet again.
How exciting! That’s great! I can knit but crocheting is my passion! 😊 💕
Thank you ❤️ this cal looks Lovely 💕🥰
Thank you so much! 🙂
After 50 years of crocheting, I am thrilled to begin my first CAL. Thanks so much for offering the perfect project that I was looking for!
Ohh, I am so happy to hear that! I hope you will enjoy this CAL! ❤️
I love this CAL, AND I’m quite a bit behind. I’m starting Round 47 and I’m stuck at [{2 2 BPDC around both of the posts of next 2 DC STS (2 BPDC stitches occur around the next 2 posts instead of around one post)}. Would you please explain this to me. I can’t give up now!
Thanks
Heather
Hello Heather,
It’s pretty simple and it’s not as complicated as it looks. You should work 1 BPDC around the next 2 stitches and then repeat that again. You can also join my Facebook group where you can get some more help from the wonderful members too. 🙂

Thanks so much!
I must have had a brain block or something, but I’m on my way again. Can’t wait to begin the last part!
Great! I can’t wait to see your beautiful work! ❤️
Very late to the party. Just a quick question on number of whirls. How many squares does 1 schepjes Whirl make? Thankyou
You get 3 blocks out of 1 whirl. 😊
