Difficulty:                     Advanced Beginner

Finished Size:               24 cm/ 9.5” tall

Materials needed:

MR = magic ring

CH = chain

ST/STS = stitch/stitches

SP = space

RS = right side

WS = wrong side

SLST = slip stitch

SC = single crochet

DC = double crochet

Picot ST = picot stitch

{ } = indicates how many stitches go into the same stitch or used to repeat a small set of instructions between these brackets the number of times given

[ ] = used to repeat a longer set of instructions between these brackets, the number of times given

Gauge:            not critical for this project but may affect the yarn quantities required

Magic Ring (MR):

Picot Stitch (Picot ST):

Standing single crochet:

Instructions

To start: With C1 CH 251

Row 1: WS

1 DC in 4th CH from the hook (Note: the 3 chains count as a DC), 1 DC in each CH to end

Row 2: RS

CH 1, 1 SC in same ST, 1 SC in next ST (Pic 1), [SK 2 STS, 5 DC in next ST (Pic 2), SK 2 STS, 1 SC in next 3 STS (Pic 3)] 30 times (Pic 4), SK 2 STS, 5 DC in next ST, SK 2 STS, 1 SC in next 2 STS (Pic 5) (Note: the last SC goes in the top of CH 3)

Fasten off.

Row 3: RS

Fasten off.

Row 4: RS

Join C3 with a standing SC (Video help: https://youtu.be/U8_NjvR30vs?si=YDLHbnS-mMGq-zjX) (Pic 1) to the first ST of last Row, [1 DC in next 4 STS (Pic 2), 2 DC+Picot ST in next ST, 2 DC in next ST (Pic 3), 1 DC in next 4 STS (Pic 4), 1 SC in next ST (SC) (Pic 5)] 31 times

Fasten off and weave in all ends.

To start: With C4 make a MR

Round 1:

CH 1, {1 SC, 1 DC, CH 2, 1 DC} 6 times into the MR (Pic 1), then pull the ring tight and join with a SLST in first SC (Alternatively you can join with an invisible join, video help: https://youtu.be/k6T0SvEpo-s?si=NbfDUoCYZiCUV8hw) (Pic 2)

Fasten off and leave a long tail to sew.

Grab the polystyrene cone and start wrapping your long garland from the bottom while gluing it to the cone up to the top. (Pics 1-4)

When you finished, sew the star on the top of the tree and sew your ends in. (Pic 5)
