Thick and Quick Twisted Headband

In a flurry of last-minute holiday preparations, I found myself in need of a quick gift. Turning to my trusty crochet skills, I decided to create a cozy and stylish twisted headband.

With a super simple pattern and a vibrant yarn, I whipped up this delightful accessory in less than an hour and now you can make it too!

Difficulty:                     Easy

Finished Size:               Regular adult but it can be easily adjusted

  • 15 mm (P) Hook
  • 50 grams, 27 yards/25 meters of Super Bulky weight yarn (I used Hobbii Udon in Purple Rain colorway)Buy it HERE!
  • Yarn needle for weaving in ends
  • Scissors
  • Stitch markers (Optional)

CH = chain

ST/STS = stitch/stitches

HDC = half double crochet

HDCBLO = half double crochet back loop only

Half double crochet back loop only (HDCBLO):

Yarn over, insert your hook only into the back loop on top instead of both loops, yarn over and finish your half double crochet as usual.

Gauge: 7 HDCBLO STS and 3.5 Rows = 4”/10 cm

  • If a row/round starts with a Chain 1, that is not counted as a stitch, unless stated otherwise.
  • US terms used throughout.
  • At the end of every row, there’s going to be a note with the stitch count, so you can keep track of your work easily and avoid any mistakes. It’s written in a different color, in bold.
  • Notes are written in a different color in (brackets) to help you through the pattern.
  • You can easily adjust the size of your headband: with less number of chains you can make it smaller and with more you can make it bigger. If you want to make it wider just repeat the rows.

To start: CH 29

Row 1: 1 HDC into the 2nd CH from the hook, 1 HDC in each CH to end (Note: You can work into the back bumps of the chains)

Row 2: CH 1, 1 HDCBLO in first ST, 1 HDCBLO in each ST to end

Row 3-4: Repeat Row 2

Fasten off, leave a long tail to sew the ends together.

  1. Put a stitch marker in the middle of the short side, lay it flat vertically with the marked end on top. (Pic 1)
  2. Fold it in half by matching the short ends: the left corner of the other side should be on top where the stitch maker is. (Pic 2)
  3. Fold left side upwards on top of the top layer. (Pic 3) (Note: keep the long tail free on top to avoid it getting wrapped in while folding)
  4. Fold right side downwards under the bottom layer. (The right corner will be under the stitch marker)(Pic 4)
  5. Sew the four layers together with a whip stitch, fasten off. (Pic 5)
  6. Flip it inside out. (Pic 6)
