There are many ways to attach a mandala to a hoop and here are three different methods!
If you like crocheting mandalas but struggling to find a way to display them, this post is for you!
I have quite a few mandala patterns now and many of my lovely followers asked me to write a post and make a video tutorial about this topic so here it is!
I find crochet mandalas really beautiful and they definitely brighten up a dull room as a decoration but attaching them to a hoop can be tricky sometimes.
Materials you need:
- Some scrap/leftover yarn
- A crochet hook (Only used for Method 1 and 3)
- Tapestry needle
- Scissors
- A metal hoop 2″/3″ bigger than your mandala
Method 1
This method uses chains to attach your mandala to the hoop using the following steps below:
- With the extra yarn make a slip knot.
- Join yarn with a standing single crochet to any stitch suitable.
- Chain enough number of chains which is enough to stretch your mandala.
- Take your hook out, wrap the chains around the hoop.
- Insert your hook back into the chain.
- Single crochet in next suitable stitch.
Then repeat Steps 3-6 around.
When you get to the end, join with a slip stitch to the first single crochet then cut and tighten your yarn.
Tip: I knot the starting and ending tail of yarn together so I can easily hang it on the wall.
I made a video tutorial of this method, just click on the photo or the link below:
Method 2
The following method uses some scrap yarn and a needle to attach your mandala to the hoop:
- Thread your needle using the scrap yarn. (Don’t cut it, just leave it long enough so you can adjust the length easily)
- Pull the yarn through any stitch suitable.
- Wrap the yarn around the hoop.
- Push your needle through the next stitch.
- Pull through again.
Repeat the steps above around until you reach your starting point.
By holding the yarn at that point, start pulling the yarn tight around the hoop. When you get around and your mandala is streched out nicely, knot the two ends securely together.

Method 3
This method uses single crochets to attach your mandala to the hoop securely:
- Join your yarn with a standing SC in any chain space or stitch and around the hoop.
- Single crochet around the hoop so your hoop won’t show through.
- Put one single crochet in next chain space or stitch and around the hoop.
- Single crochet around the hoop again.
Repeat Steps 3-4 to end, then join with a slip stitch to the first single crochet, fasten off and leave a long tail to hang.
