Ezella Shawl

Do you love rectangular shawls as much as I do?

If the answer is YES, this shawl design is for you! It’s super easy, works up fast and looks stunning!

I LOVE using Scheepjes Whirls as they come in many many beautiful shades but I had this particular colorway for a while in my stash…I couldn’t decide on a pattern which would look nice with those colors, so I never picked it out of my box and just left it for fate to decide later. 😀

Then, one day, I grabbed all of my whirls, laid them out and asked my daughter which one should I use for my next design and she chose it! First, I was not keen of the color at all but it grew on me!

Say hello to my newest pattern, the Ezella Shawl! I hope you will like it too!

Special thanks to my testers: Kerry Freeman, Jan Henley and Zannah Söderlind!

                                                180 cm/ 71” long

Materials needed:

  • 3.5 mm (E) size hook (I used Navy Odyssey by Furls)
  • NOTE: If you crochet loosely I advise you to use a 3 mm (5/0) size hook
  • 1 Scheepjes Whirl (I used Pistachi Oh So Nice shade)

or approximately 1094 yards/ 1000 meters of fingering weight yarn

  • Yarn needle for weaving in ends
  • Scissors
  • Stitch markers (optional)
  • NOTE: Blocking is essential to enhance the lace patternwork of your shawl and to ensure that your edges are straight

Stitches Used and Abbreviations:

CH = chain

SK = skip

ST/STS= stitch/ stitches

SLST = slip stitch

SC = single crochet

DC = double crochet

Picot ST = picot stitch

{ } =indicates how many stitches go into the same stitch or used to repeat a small set of instructions between these brackets the number of times given

 [ ] = used to repeat a longer set of instructions between these brackets, the number of times given

Special Stitches:

Picot Stitch (Picot ST):

CH 3, SLST into the third CH from hook

Gauge: 5 DC STS and 2.5 rows = 1″ / 2.5 cm

Additional notes:

  • If a row/round starts with a Chain 1, that is not counted as a stitch, unless stated otherwise.
  • Slip stitches do not count as stitches.
  • CH 2 always counts as double crochet.
  • US terms used throughout
  • At the end of every round, there’s going to be a note with the stitch count, so you can keep track of your work easily and avoid any mistakes. It’s written in a different color in bold
  • Notes are written in a different color in (brackets) to help you through the pattern.
  • You can start each row as I did in the pattern or you can use a standing stitch or chains, it’s totally up to you!
  • You can easily adjust the width of your shawl: the starting chain should be multiples of 19+1 chains

Definition of Motif Rows:

Consist of 3 rows, which are the repeat of Row 5-7 (shown within the red box)

  1. Hello, I recently bought the Ezella shawl. Can I check the stitch count for row 4? I am counting 90 dc’s but you state 70 in the pattern.
