Size: 92 cm/36” long

Materials needed:
- 3.75 mm (F) size hook
- NOTE: If you crochet loosely I advise you to use a 3 mm (5/0) size hook
- 2 cakes of Scheepjes Whirl or approximately 2186 yards/2000 meters of fingering weight yarn (I used Black Forest Zinger (770) and Blackcurrant Squeeze Me (773) shade)
- Yarn needle for weaving in ends
- Scissors
- Stitch markers
Stitches Used and Abbreviations:
MR = magic ring
CH = chain
SK = skip
SP =space
SM = stitch marker
ST/STS= stitch/ stitches
SC = single crochet
DC = double crochet
Puff ST = puff stitch
Puff V = puff v stitch
Open Shell ST = open shell stitch
{ } =indicates how many stitches go into the same stitch or used to repeat a small set of instructions between these brackets the number of times given
[ ] = used to repeat a medium length set of instructions between these brackets, the number of times given
[ ] = used to repeat a longer set of instructions between these brackets, the number of times given
Gauge: not critical for this project but may affect the yarn quantities required

Additional notes:
- Chain 1 is not counted as a stitch, unless stated otherwise.
- US terms used throughout
- At the end of every row, there’s going to be a note with the stitch count, so you can keep track of your work easily and avoid any mistakes. It’s written in a different color in bold. Starting with Row 5, I included a stitch count per side (excluding the CH 2 SP in the middle) and a total stitch count too, in case you prefer it that way.
- Notes are written in a different color in (brackets) to help you through the pattern or tell you which stitches to work into or skip.
- You can start each row as I did in the pattern or you can use a standing stitch or chains, it’s totally up to you!
- NOTE: Blocking is great to enhance the textured patternwork of your shawl and to ensure that your edges are straight
- I worked both of my Whirls from the inside, started with Black Forest Zinger (770) and then continued with Blackcurrant Squeeze Me (773) shade

Puff Stitch (Puff ST):

- Yarn over hook, insert hook in indicated stitch, pull up a long loop through that stitch (3 loops on hook)
- Yarn over hook again, insert hook into the same stitch, pull up a loop (same height as the previous one) 3 more times. You should have 9 loops on your hook.
- Yarn over and pull through 8 loops, (2 loops remain on your hook)
- Yarn over and pull through both remaining loops.
(This way, you will only have 1 loop on top of the puff stitches, instead of 2)

Note: If you want to make your shawl bigger, just repeat Rows 8-9 as many times as you wish, then continue with the border. (Please note that the number of the repeats will be more)
