Elloth Granny Square

As many of you know, August 15 is the National Granny Square Day every year and I love participating by creating granny squares for the celebration.

This year, I have created two new patterns and they are ready to be released to the wild now! 😀

The Elloth Granny Square is the second one of them and it’s an absolutely beautiful floral design which is very versatile.

You can use this block for many projects: bags, pillow covers, blankets etc., the possibilities are endless!

Special thanks to my testers: Louise Baker, Gina Brophy and Michelle Schneider

Materials needed:

  • 3.75 mm (F) size hook (I used Furls White + Rose Gold Odyssey)
  • Paintbox Yarns Cotton DK in 3 different colors-a total of 8 grams (Daffodil Yellow-C1, Peach Orange-C2, Pistachio Green-C3) or any other yarn suitable
  • Yarn needle for weaving in ends
  • Scissors
  • Stitch markers (optional)
  • NOTE: Blocking is essential to even out the stitches and make sure your edges are straight

Stitches Used and Abbreviations:

MR = magic ring

CH = chain

SK = skip

ST/STS= stitch/ stitches

SLST = slip stitch

SC = single crochet

HDC = half double crochet

DC = double crochet

TR = treble crochet

Special Stitches:

Popcorn Stitch (Popcorn ST):

Work 5 double crochet (DC) stitches in the same stitch. Drop the loop from your hook and insert your hook from front to back under the top 2 loops of the first double crochet of the group. Grab the dropped loop with your hook and pull it through the stitch.

Gauge:             not critical for this project but may affect the yarn quantities required

Additional notes:

  • Slip stitches do not count as stitches.
  • CH 1 does not count as a stitch, unless stated otherwise.
  • US terms used throughout.
  • At the end of every round, there’s going to be a note with the stitch count, so you can keep track of your work easily and avoid any mistakes. It’s written in a different color, in bold.
  • When working on the corners, always remember that there might be a hidden stitch hiding under the corner stitches which is the first stitch of the previous row
  • Notes are written in a different color in (brackets) to help you through the pattern.
