Puffs and Hugs Granny Square

This easy to make, textured granny square is inspired by my other design, the Puffs and Hugs Baby Blanket, which is available here.

The pattern is using puff stitches and front post stitches to create a nice, textured look.

Finished size of the square is 5”x 5”, which can be used to make a big, granny square blanket.

Difficulty: Beginner

Size:      5” x 5”

Materials needed:

  • 4 mm (G) size Hook (Get great hooks HERE)
  • approx. 10 grams of any DK yarn desired
  • Yarn needle for weaving in ends
  • Scissors

Stitches used and Abbreviations:

SP= space

CH = chain

ST/STS= stitch/ stitches

SLST = slip stitch

DC = double crochet

HDC = half double crochet

FPDC = front post double crochet

PUFF ST = puff stitch

*-* =repeat pattern between these symbols

Additional terms/ Special Stitches:

Front Post Double Crochet:

Yarn over, insert your hook from the front around the post of given stitch, from right to left, yarn over and finish your double crochet as usual.

Puff Stitch:

Yarn over hook, insert hook in indicated stitch/space, pull up a long loop through that stitch/space (3 loops on hook) Yarn over hook again and insert hook into the same stitch/space, pull up a loop (same height as the previous one) 3 more times. You should have 9 loops on your hook. Yarn over and pull through all 9 loops on your hook, chain 1 to close the puff stitch.
