Melda Coffee Cup Cozy

This coffee cup cozy is a very quick and easy small project between big projects or perfect for stashbusting too.

It is available in 3 sizes: Small, Medium and Large to fit any cup you want. It is completely reusable and washable too, so you won’t need those old paper coffee sleeves anymore! 🙂

The pattern is using puff and double crochet stitches to create a nice, textured look.

Difficulty: Beginner

Size: Small, Medium and Large

Materials needed:

  • 5 mm (H) size hook for Medium and Large sizes (Get great hooks HERE)
  • 6 mm (J) size hook for Small size
  • approx. 15-20 grams (25.5-34 metres/28-37,2 yards) of Drops Loves You 8 100 % cotton or any other 100% cotton,aran/worsted weight yarn
  • Yarn needle for weaving in ends
  • Scissors

Stitches used and Abbreviations:

SK= skip

SP= space

CH = chain

ST/STS= stitch/ stitches

SLST = slip stitch

SC = single crochet

DC = double crochet

Puff ST = Puff stitch

*-* =repeat pattern between these symbols

Gauge:   Small size: 4 SC = 1”

                  Medium and Large size: 5 SC = 1”

Additional notes:

  • US terms used throughout
  • CH 3 always counts as DC

Additional terms/ Special Stitches:

Puff Stitch:

Yarn over hook, insert hook in indicated stitch/space, pull up a long loop through that stitch/space (3 loops on hook) Yarn over hook again and insert hook into the same stitch/space, pull up a loop (same height as the previous one) 3 more times. You should have 9 loops on your hook. Yarn over and pull through all 9 loops on your hook, chain 1 to close the puff stitch.

Instructions

Small Size:

To start: CH 21, SLST to first CH to form a ring (make sure you don’t twist it when join)

Round 1: CH 1, 1 SC in each CH to end, join with a SLST to first SC  

(21 SC)

Round 2: CH 3 4 DC in same ST, SK 2 STS, 1 DC in next 2 ST, SK 2 STS, *5 DC in next ST, SK 2 STS, 1 DC in next 2 STS, SK 2 STS* repeat *to* to end join with a SLST to top of CH 3

(3 Shells, 6 DC)

Round 3: SLST in next DC, SLST in SP between the 2nd and 3rd DC of shell, CH 3, 1 DC between 3rd and 4th DC of shell, SK the last 2 DC of shell, 3 Puff ST between the next 2 DC, *SK the first 2 DC of shell, 1 DC between the 2nd and 3rd DC of shell, 1 DC between 3rd and 4th DC of shell, SK the last 2 DC of shell, 3 Puff ST between the next 2 DC* repeat *to* to end join with a SLST to top of CH 3

(3 Puff ST groups, 5 DC+ CH 3)

Round 4: SLST to SP between CH 3 and DC from previous round, CH 3, 4 DC in same SP, 1 DC between 1st and 2nd Puff ST, 1 DC between 2nd and 3rd Puff ST, *5 DC between the next 2 DC, 1 DC between 1st and 2nd Puff ST, 1 DC between 2nd and 3rd Puff ST* repeat *to* to end, join with a SLST to top of CH 3

(3 Shells, 6 DC)

Round 5: as Round 3

Round 6: as Round 4

Round 7: CH 1, SC in same ST, 1 SC in each ST to end, join with a SLST to first SC                            

(21 SC)

Fasten off, weave in all ends.

Medium Size:

To start: CH 28, SLST to first CH to form a ring (make sure you don’t twist it when join)

Round 1: CH 1, 1 SC in each CH to end, join with a SLST to first SC

(28 SC)

Round 2: CH 3 4 DC in same ST, SK 2 STS, 1 DC in next 2 ST, SK 2 STS, *5 DC in next ST, SK 2 STS, 1 DC in next 2 STS, SK 2 STS* repeat *to* to end join with a SLST to top of CH 3

(4 Shells, 8 DC)

Round 3: SLST in next DC, SLST in SP between the 2nd and 3rd DC of shell, CH 3, 1 DC between 3rd and 4th DC of shell, SK the last 2 DC of shell, 3 Puff ST between the next 2 DC, *SK the first 2 DC of shell, 1 DC between the 2nd and 3rd DC of shell, 1 DC between 3rd and 4th DC of shell, SK the last 2 DC of shell, 3 Puff ST between the next 2 DC* repeat *to* to end join with a SLST to top of CH 3

(4 Puff ST groups, 7 DC+ CH 3)

Round 4: SLST to SP between CH 3 and DC from previous round, CH 3, 4 DC in same SP, 1 DC between 1st and 2nd Puff ST, 1 DC between 2nd and 3rd Puff ST, *5 DC between the next 2 DC, 1 DC between 1st and 2nd Puff ST, 1 DC between 2nd and 3rd Puff ST* repeat *to* to end, join with a SLST to top of CH 3

(4 Shells, 8 DC)

Round 5: as Round 3

Round 6: as Round 4

Round 7: as Round 3

Round 8: as Round 4

Round 9: CH 1, SC in same ST, 1 SC in each ST to end, join with a SLST to first SC                            

(28 SC)

Fasten off, weave in all ends.

Large Size:

To start: CH 35, SLST to first CH to form a ring (make sure you don’t twist it when join)

Round 1: CH 1, 1 SC in each CH to end, join with a SLST to first SC

(35 SC)

Round 2: CH 3 4 DC in same ST, SK 2 STS, 1 DC in next 2 ST, SK 2 STS, *5 DC in next ST, SK 2 STS, 1 DC in next 2 STS, SK 2 STS* repeat *to* to end join with a SLST to top of CH 3

(5 Shells, 10 DC)

Round 3: SLST in next DC, SLST in SP between the 2nd and 3rd DC of shell, CH 3, 1 DC between 3rd and 4th DC of shell, SK the last 2 DC of shell, 3 Puff ST between the next 2 DC, *SK the first 2 DC of shell, 1 DC between the 2nd and 3rd DC of shell, 1 DC between 3rd and 4th DC of shell, SK the last 2 DC of shell, 3 Puff ST between the next 2 DC* repeat *to* to end join with a SLST to top of CH 3
