I absolutely love designing shawls recently as I love using them myself. Also, they are a great gift for someone you love. So enjoy my newest design, I hope you’ll find it as lovely as me.

This pattern and photographs are the property of K.A.M.E. Crochet by Krisztina Anna Matejcsok-Edomer and are for personal and non-commercial use. You may not alter or sell this pattern in any way. You may sell finished products, but please credit K.A.M.E. Crochet if you can. Thank you!

You can download an AD FREE printable version of this pattern for a small fee in my Ravelry store HERE.

Before you start, I also made a stitch count chart for each row to keep your work tracked easily. Download it here:

Difficulty:

Advanced Beginner

Size:

29.5” long/ 59” wide (75 cm long/150 cm wide)

Materials needed:

  • 3.5 mm (E) size hook (You can buy great crochet hooks HERE)
  • 1 Scheepjes Whirl or approximately 1093 yards/1000 meters of fingering weight yarn (I used Scheepjes Whirl in Red Velvet Sunrise)
  • Yarn needle for weaving in ends
  • Scissors
  • Stitch markers (optional)
  • NOTE: when you finish the shawl it might need some blocking to make the pattern show off

Stitches Used and Abbreviations:

MR = magic ring

CH = chain

SK = skip

ST/STS= stitch/ stitches

SC = single crochet

HDC = half double crochet

FPHDC = front post half double crochet

DC = double crochet

FPDC = front post double crochet

BPDC = back post double crochet

Puff ST = puff stitch

*-* =repeat pattern between these symbols (This is only used for a full repeat, may contain smaller repeats)

{} =indicates how many stitches go into the same stitch or used to repeat a small set of instructions between these brackets the number of times given

[] = used to repeat a longer set of instructions between these brackets, the number of times given

Special Stitches:

Front Post Half Double Crochet (FPHDC):

Yarn over, insert your hook from front to back around the post of given stitch, from right to left, yarn over, and finish your half double crochet as usual.

Front Post Double Crochet (FPDC):

Yarn over, insert your hook from front to back around the post of given stitch, from right to left, yarn over and finish your double crochet as usual.

Back Post Double Crochet (BPDC):

Yarn over, insert your hook from back to front around the post of given stitch, from right to left, yarn over and finish your double crochet as usual.

Puff Stitch (Puff ST):

Yarn over hook, insert hook in indicated stitch, pull up a long loop through that stitch (3 loops on hook)

Yarn over hook again and insert hook into the same stitch, pull up a loop (same height as the previous one) 3 more times. You should have 9 loops on your hook.

Yarn over and pull through 8 loops, (2 loops remains on your hook), yarn over and pull through both  remaining loops.

(this way, you will only have 1 loop on top of the puff stitches, instead of 2)

Gauge:

5 DC STS = 1”

Additional notes:

  • If a row/round starts with a Chain 1, it is not counted as a stitch, unless stated otherwise.
  • CH 3 always counts as double crochet
  • Slip stitches do not count as stitches.
  • I wrote the instructions in Sections and I’ll refer to these sections in the repeats further in the pattern (e.g. repeat Section 1)
  • In a separate file, I included the detailed stitch count for each row to keep your work tracked easily (you can find that at the begininng of the post on top)
  • US terms used throughout
  • At the end of the row, there’s going to be a note with the stitch count, so you can keep track of your work easily and avoid any mistakes. It’s written in a different color, the first line in bold is always the total stitch count for the row, under that, I included a stitch count per side in case you prefer it that way.
  • Notes are written in (brackets) to help you through the pattern.
  • You can start each round as I did in the pattern or you can use a standing stitch or chains, it’s totally up to you!
